The Earth Science department at UCSB hosts a scientific talk each week. Today we are fortunate to have Dr. Dayanthie Weeraratne, a professor from the Dept. of Geological Science at California State University, Northridge, who studies solid Earth geophysics through seiemology and geophysical fluid dynamics. She spent the day at UCSB meeting with students and faculty to discuss her science, build potential collaborations, and expose the community to a broader range of geology than provided by our own excellent faculty at UCSB. Dr. Weeraratne also gave a talk about the entrainment and storage of silicates and volatiles by descending iron diapirs during core formation.
